Chemically Modified Lignin: Correlation between Structure and Biodegradability

Lignin is the most abundant heteropolymer based on aromatic subunits in nature. Large quantities of lignin are annually produced from pulping processes and biorefinery industries. Its unclearly defined structure difficult biodegradation mainly limit its utilization. This work focused effect hydroxylation microbial degradation. Butyloxy carbonyl-modified lignin, hydroxylated-lignin were synthesized with di-tert-butyl dicarbonate hydrogen peroxide, respectively, using as raw material. The degradation modifiedlignins both by P. chrysosporium B. subtilis analyzed UV-vis spectroscopy. Results revealed that velocity raises increase level lignin. Moreover, FTIR 1H NMR analysis products further indicated higher content hydroxyl groups facilitated demethylation combined ring cracking presence fungus bacteria.
